Written by Julie Rouanne and illustrated by Mélodie Baschet.
From age 3.
Camped on the bow of her dad’s boat, Milda looks straight ahead at the cliffs. Her binoculars show her puffins in full flight.
Vik, a young puffin, is ready to take flight. Perched on the edge of the cliff and accompanied by her grandmother, she prepares to spread her wings for the first time.
Suddenly, the wind and the mist lift… They are reunited for that brief suspended moment when they feel alone in the world. A glance and they understand each other.
In an interplay of glances, we alternate between the bird’s point of view and that of the child.
This story is about two young people leaving behind the innocence of childhood.
The gouache illustrations are a perfect tribute to the magnificent landscapes of the Icelandic cliffs.
